5 DAYS FOUNDATION

FLORISTRY CAREER COURSE

DAY 1 - Bouquets & Accessories

In the morning, we will focus on hand-tied bouquets and on the ‘spiral’ technique.

We will learn how to create a classic hand-tied bouquet, a botanical hand-tied bouquet, and a modern hand-tied bouquet with frameworks.

In the afternoon, we will focus on making a flower crown, decorative hair clip, boutonniere, corsage, and wristlet including how to make these designs in advance of an event, how to keep them hydrated, and looking their best out of water.

These skills are particularly useful for wedding work, gifts, and retail.

DAY 2 - Table Arrangement & Tablescaping

In the morning, we will focus on table arrangements, from urns to tall centerpieces and delicate glass vessel decorations.

We will learn how to use the most eco-friendly techniques, including the use of chicken wire, moss, pin frog, and much more.

In the afternoon, we will focus on designing beautiful tablescapes with flowers, table accessories, candles, fabrics, and other interesting botanical materials.

These skills are particularly useful for wedding and event work, shop installations, event decor, and set design.

DAY 3 - Venue Decoration

In the morning we will focus on urn arrangements and aisle decorations.

We will learn how to create a natural floral meadow aisle decoration, pew end decorations, and also how to style the ceremony with flowers, lanterns, candle holders, chair sashes, and other interesting props.

In the afternoon, we will focus on designing a beautiful fireplace decoration.

These skills are particularly useful for wedding and event work, shop installations, event decor, and set design.

DAY 4 - Large Scale Installations

Learn how to create large-scale installations.

We will show you the correct techniques and mechanics to create large foam-free installations with a wow factor.

Learn how to make two collaborative designs; a suspended flower cloud and an archway.

Discover how to choose foliage and flowers suitable for each design, understand how to hydrate flowers without foam, and decide which hidden vessels to use and where to source armatures and materials.

Learn how to build installations easily, sustainably, and efficiently onsite, as well as organise logistics and transport.

These skills are particularly useful for wedding and event work, shop installations, event decor, and set design.

DAY 5 - Setting Up Your Business & Planning Events

An important part of the course is theory-based, covering setting up your own floristry business (whether it is from home or retail premises), buying stock, selling at retail, and making a profit (along with plenty of important business-related topics!)

We will cover how to plan an event from an inquiry all the way through to design, delivery, and clear-up.

We will also host a business start-up and coaching session, which will offer you the opportunity to ask questions about the industry.

——————————————-

Guidance will be given on the construction of each floristry design with plenty of opportunity to ask questions.

We understand that embarking on a new career is an exciting but daunting prospect. Whether you are just starting out or leaving an established career in another field, this course will not only lead you on a new adventure but also increase your confidence to get the most out of your journey.

Our flower school delivers a program of sustainable floristry classes and courses that celebrate seasonal flowers, combining the art of garden-style flower arranging with practical tuition on sustainable, foam-free mechanics.
