At Hiden, we are very lucky to work with beautiful flowers, stunning props, and lavish stationery.

However, we are all too aware that all of these products can cause damage to the environment in one way or another.

Our team is committed to reducing our carbon footprint and the waste we produce whilst striving to include more sustainable working practices to reduce our impact on the environment.

Because we are a one-stop wedding business we are able in one delivery to set up your floral, styling, and signage and so we are able to reduce the carbon footprint of your event.

On this journey, we are always looking for new ways to bring sustainability into weddings and reduce the impact that the industry has on our planet.

OUR LOCATION

Our studio and showroom are based in an over 200 year old barn and we constantly working on making it more energy efficient.

We have upgraded the insulations, replace all our electric bulbs with LED lights and we are planning to install an electric charging point by 2025.

Also, our power is provided by E.ON. and we have opted for their 100% renewal energy.

All the water that we use to keep our flowers alive is reused to water our foliage-cutting potted plants that are located in front of the barn.

FLOWERS

We always consider where our flowers come from and how they are grown to reduce the amount of transportation emissions. We aim to work with local flower growers and where possible will opt for seasonal and British varieties in our designs.

A lot of flowers used in the floristry industry are imported from countries where they have better growing conditions and don’t require artificial light, heating, and artificial chemicals. We try to choose a product that has been grown and produced in an ethical and sustainable way.

In many of our designs, we use hand-picked foliage grown in our own gardens and we will continue to plant more varieties to use in the future.

PROPS & STYLING

When we style an event we always try to make sure everything that we use fits into one of the following criteria recycled, reused, repurposed, or upcycled creating as little waste as possible.

All our props are hired multiple times, and therefore they are used again and again, reducing the need for ‘one use’ or throwaway items

We always suggest hiring items rather than buying everything yourself. We all know the great intentions of selling everything after your event day become often a “store it in the garage, loft, or spare bedroom”.

TABLE RUNNER & NAPKINS

All our linens are handmade from 100% natural fabrics and eco-friendly dye.

The linens are washed and line dried and reused as many times as possible throughout their life.

CONFETTI

Our confetti are hand dried at our studio and also they are 100% biodegradable.

STATIONERY & SIGNAGE

All the papers that we use in our stationery are either recycled FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified, or biodegradable hand-made ‘Flower Seed Paper’.

All our paper has a lower carbon footprint than traditional paper.

All of our cut-off paper is either recycled or in the case of the ‘Flower Seed Paper’ planted.

All the wood that we use for our signage is repurposed for creating new signage.

WASTE AND RECYCLING

To avoid additional waste, we always consider and plan the quantity of flowers and foliage we expect to use in our designs very carefully. This helps to cut down on any green waste for composting or recycling.

Our fresh materials are ordered regularly to ensure a minimal storage time so the flowers can be enjoyed at their freshest. This also reduces any associated energy for refrigeration and lighting and cuts down on the amount of water used to hydrate the flowers.

All our green waste is separated from any cardboard or plastic packaging and composted in our own green compost bins located outside our studio. The compost that we produce is used with our potted plants and our home vegetable garden.

All of the cardboard that we use is either reused or recycled.

If we do have any spare flowers, they are donated to a nursing home so the local community can enjoy them.

Unfortunately, we cannot recycle some plastic waste at this stage, but we are looking into alternative ways to repurpose this in a meaningful way.

TRAVEL

It is, of course, impossible to avoid travel when planning and decorating a wedding, however, we try and carry out as few in person meetings before an event as possible, instead, we are using Zoom or telephone calls instead.

Also, we plan to move to all-electric vehicles by 2025.

BUSINESS PRACTICES

All our quotes are sent via email to cut down on paper and energy used for printing.

We have reduced our use of floral foam by 70% and use biodegradable options. Where possible, we create alternative structures like moss and twigs to form a base for our designs.

Our delivery routes are planned carefully to ensure the most direct route and reduce fuel emissions.

All of our team members live within 8 miles of the studio.

Our business cards/flyers/bouquet slips are printed on material made from recycled paper.

OUR COMMITMENT TO OUR SUSTAINABILITY PROMISES IS ONGOING AND THIS POLICY WILL BE REVIEWED ANNUALLY.
